In order to renew your vehicle registration online you will need the following:
Your current vehicle registration certificate.
You will need your licence plate number and your registration number, which you can find on this document.
Only one-year renewals for Class 3 passenger vehicles, motorcycles and motor homes (with no amendments required) are eligible. This includes cars, light trucks, vans and motor homes exclusively used for personal transportation on a private, non-commercial basis.
A valid insurance pink card which is proof of insurance coverage.
Your insurance must provide public liability and property damage coverage under an owner's automobile insurance policy as provided for in the Alberta Insurance Act.
It is an offence punishable by law to apply for or obtain registration of a motor vehicle when it is not insured or to operate an uninsured motor vehicle.
A valid credit card.
We accept VISA, MasterCard, or American Express. We do not accept VISA Debit and prepaid credit cards.
Please use Internet Explorer 8 or above to process your transaction. Other browsers may prevent your transaction from being processed.
Once you are ready, please make your payment. You will be taken to the secure Government of Alberta payment portal to complete your transaction.
You will know your transaction was successful when you reach a page containing the message: Your transaction has been completed. Print this page as a receipt of the transaction. If you did not reach this page, your transaction may not have been completed. If you are unsure about the status of your payment, please contact us.
Allow at least 10 business days for registrations and tabs to reach you by mail. If you are processing this renewal within 10 days of expiry, you may not receive your new registration and tabs before the end of the month. It is your responsibility to allow sufficient time for mail delivery.
Do not renew your vehicle online if your mailing address has changed, or your new registration and tabs will be sent to the wrong address.
Print and keep your receipt as proof of payment.
If you do not receive your new registration and tabs after 10 days, take your printed receipt to any registry agent within 30 days of paying online for a no-fee tab replacement.
A service fee of $9.00 plus GST will be applied to all vehicle renewals paid online. The same service fee applies to renewals paid in person at a registry office, and renewals done through the mail.
